New data from Britain's National Health Service reveals over a third of the 50,000 patients going to hospitals in England for hearing loss are under 50.

  • Researchers believe the increase in hearing loss is due to listening to loud music through headphones.
  • If this trend continues, one in four individuals in England will have hearing loss by 2030 due to listening to loud music.
  • The permanent damage can also cause tinnitus.

The result of this is that we're now seeing a worrying number of young people damaging their hearing. Thousands of people in the UK will end up needing hearing aids because of this damage. —Dr. Luke Twelves
