Compared to HearProtek's Sleep Ear Plugs, their Ultra Soft Moldable Silicone Ear Plugs cover the ear canal; they don't enter it. This creates an effective barrier, blocking some sound waves from reaching the inner ear. Their Noise-Reduction Rating (NRR) is 22dB compared to the Sleep Earplugs, 30dB (with silicone ear tips) or 33dB (with foam ear tips).

My experience

  • They're easy to use. The earplugs shaped into spheres easily when I sandwiched them between the palms of my hands and rolled them around like making a small meatball.
  • The fit is comfortable and stays in place. Be patient when applying pressure to the earplugs. With light pressure plus the warmth of your ears, the earplugs will gradually conform to your outer ear creating a snug fit. Using lots of force does not produce as good a fit and can push some of the material into your ear canal.
  • Holding conversations is easy with these earplugs.

Takeaways

The HearProtek Ultra Soft Moldable Silicone Ear Plugs protect your hearing in moderately noisy environments.

  • Best applications: dining in noisy restaurants, studying, traveling, sleeping, and focusing at work.
  • If you don't like earplugs that fit inside your ear canals, you may find these provide an agreeable alternative.
  • They're an excellent choice for keeping your ear canals dry (swimming, showering). The material is waterproof.
  • With an NRR of 22dB, they're not a good choice for high-noise industrial workplaces or when using firearms unless worn with earmuffs.
  • Similar to the Sleep Ear Plugs, they fit flush with your head. Great under a winter hat that covers your ears or sleeping on your side.
  • They're reusable. You can clean them with soapy water (thoroughly dry them before using). HearProtek recommends using one set of earplugs up to 5 times.
  • At Amazon for $8.99
